What we offer at homestay

Find out what
to expect

People coming for holidays are from cities and come to relax and enjoy in this Hotel in Mashobra. We believe one can only feel relaxed when your mind is at peace.

WATER & ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

It is a somewhat paradoxical fact that the water used in this village of Ta Van is free but extremely precious.

Why?
It is free because it comes from springs gushing from deep forests in the mountains. The local population (usually through family groups) contributes financially to the establishment of a network of Plymouth pipes to bring water to houses and fill the rice terraces. People therefore do not have to pay a fee for the use of water.
This water is precious because it flows from the deep forest, so clear, so soft, but the amount of water depends on the source and the weather. So sometimes it flows strongly, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it is even less because a buffalo has trampled on the pipe. The water flows continuously and the residual water returns to the hydraulic system of the rice terraces before rejoining the stream.

Therefore, we protect the environment by first thinking about the water and soil we are using. We try to use the water as best as we can. We built a small tank to store rainwater for watering the garden. The overflow tank will flow through the vegetables and then join the general drainage system. We leave the herbal bath water cool before discharging it into the water system of the rice terraces. In the garden, there are two additional ponds for landscaping, fish farming, cooling, and water retention for the garden. For the soil, we do not use any chemicals, but enrich the soil by asking our neighbors for straw after the harvest and rice husks from rice milling to cover the garden. We bought more buffalo manure to fertilize the trees to make them more lush. We sort organic waste and prune plants to make compost for the garden.

EATING BY SEASONS & USING GOOD PRODUCTS

We use seasonal foods to take advantage of nature’s abundant energy and enjoy the best taste of fruits and vegetables. We realize that living to the rhythm of nature, of the universe is a marvelous experience.
Rose was trained in organic farming through the Mekong Organics project funded by the Australian government. She gained a good understanding of organic farming, joined a network of organic farmers and consumed their products to support their development and help protect human health and the environment.

In the garden, we grow a few fruit trees, seasonal vegetables, spices, and herbs for home use. We chose to buy more fresh food from local families growing it in the garden to use and bring the excess to the village market to sell. Dry foods such as vermicelli, coffee, tea, pepper, sea salt, cane sugar, anchovy fish sauce, peanut oil, sesame oil, etc. are purchased at small organic farms and craft villages across Vietnam.
We do not use MSG (glutamate) or industrial seasoning because we enjoy the delicious taste of the original spices which bring a very natural flavor to food and protect your health. At the same time, Rose establishes an alliance of farmers & sellers who make/collect and exchange their good products so together we can develop sustainably.

We also have a hobby of making liquor, making cakes, jams, and syrups from what we have in the four seasons. You know, when you use food that has been grown in sufficient time, receive enough energy from the earth without using chemicals, it is delicious on its own, you just need to add a little spices to enjoy tasty meals.

NATURAL BODY CARE

When you come to our home, you will experience a simple, gentle but extremely high-quality body care method. We use soap made from vegetable oils, herbal powders and organic essential oils for hair washing, bathing, face washing, and hand washing. All guests love it because their skin is smooth and gentle after use. To nourish the skin, Rose makes massage oils for the face and body from vegetable oils and essential oils that are both fragrant and effective in natural care and healing. When massaging, you will feel the fragrance and relaxation. To brush our teeth, we make toothpaste from mint powder, honey, and sea salt. After using it, you will feel cool and refreshed with naturally fragrant breath.

NATURAL HOME CLEANING

We make enzyme dishwashing liquid from natural ingredients such as peels of soapberry, pineapple, orange, lemon, lemongrass. We also wash clothes without using chemicals. In the home, lemongrass essential oil is used to bring a fresh scent to the house, repel insects, and scent clothes. Therefore, we can safely use wastewater to water the garden or discharge it into the environment.

NATURAL LIVING SPACE

In the summer or on sunny days, we don’t need to use air conditioning; because Sapa’s climate is cool and the house structure is airy and windy. There are trees and naturally regulated ponds in the garden. In winter or on cold days, we make a fire in the kitchen, add some charcoal to keep the whole house warm. When it is very cold, we use a small heater. We learn from our villagers how to live according to nature, to do things by seasons. Therefore, if the day you come and the weather is not beautiful, you will always have interesting experiences at our home!
We close in January and February each year to allow our house and garden to rest. Further, it was foggy at that time so the experience would not be fulfilled.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

By living and understanding the local people life, we work and engage the local people in activities that contribute to the development. We offer inspiring books (Rose is the book’s co-author) to school libraries in different villages in Sapa district. We call for donation nationwide and offer clothes to the people in need in different villages as well. We create jobs and teach women and local people in working skills.
In addition, to promote the sustainable living practices in Vietnam, Rose also hosts a talkshow series named “Living Green” where she and her team invite reputable speakers in different areas to share about topics of living well, funny and beautifully. This living green community reach 1000 members.
